It is National Vocational Training Day today. I have just got back from an awards ceremony organised by
JHP Training’ for its 2007 Young Apprentices. The 26 young people had
successfully attained a
NVQ Level 1 in either Business
Administration or Retail Operations. The room was packed with over 70 learners, parents, local employers and teachers. I spoke for a short while before an excellent speech by Amanda Gaunt, whose son was one of the recipient’s of the Young Apprentice Certificate
The promotion of vocational skills training, particularly for our young people, is a subject on which I feel very strongly. The young people I met had learnt excellent skills and were confident and excited about their future paths.
A great evening and thanks to the staff at JHP Training, including Regional Manager Denise Northedge and Employment Broker Eyvonne Dight, who did such a wonderful job of putting the event together.
